About Kamakhya Temple:
Kamakhya Temple, which is situated at the top of the Nilachal Hill at about 800 feet above the sea level. The entire temple complex not only comprises of many other temples but also a whole set of people connected with them. Apart from the main devi temple, it also comprises of some other major temples of devi Kali, Tara, Bagala, Chinnamasta, Bhuvanesvari, Bhairavi and Dhumavati.

Legend of Kamakhaya:
Once Naraka, motivated by his carnal desire, wanted to marry Devi Kamakhya. When proposed, the goddess playfully put a condition before him. If Naraka would be able to build a staircase from the bottom of the Nilachal hill to the temple within one night, then she would surely marry him. Naraka took it as a challenge and tried all with his might to do this marathon task. He was almost about to accomplish the job when the Devi, panic-stricken as she was to see this, played a trick on him. She strangled a cock and made it crow untimely to give the impression of dawn to Naraka. Duped by the trick even Naraka thought that it was a futile job and left it half way through. Later he chased the cock and killed it in a place which is now known as Kukurakata, situated in the district of Darrang. The incomplete staircase is known as Mekhelauja path.
Festivals:
Durga Puja is celebrated annually during Navaratri in the month of September- October. It is a three day festival attracting several visitors.
Ambubachi Mela, also known as Ambubasi festival, is held annually during monsoon in the Kamakhya Devi Temple at Guwahati, Assam. In 2010, the beginning date of Ambubachi Mela is June 22nd and the festival ends on June 26. The Ambubachi festival is closely related to the Tantric cult and is also known as Kamkhya Devi Puja. It is believed that Goddess Kamakhya goes through her menstrual cycle during these days and therefore the temple remains closed for three days. Ambubachi Mela is also known as Ameti or Tantric fertility festival and is a four-day mela (fair). It is widely believed that Goddess Kamakhya goes through her yearly menstrual cycle during the Ambubachi days. The temple remains closed for three days – the menstruation period. People in large numbers wait outside the temple on the fourth day, when the temple will be opened. Sanyasins and Pandas from around the country assemble at the Kamakhya temple during this period. Large number of devotees make a mad rush when the temple reopens to receive the unique ‘prasad’ which is small bits of cloth, which is supposedly moist with the menstrual fluid of Goddess Kamakhya. It is considered highly auspicious and powerful.

A Religious Trip from Bangalore to Tirupati
Tirupati is in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is most famous for its Sri Venkateswara Temple dedicated to Vishnu, also known as Balaji in North Indian and Govinda in South Indian. The source of the water is the nearby Onakanahalli Tank. There are quite a few resorts to chose from nearby and there is a KSTDC run restaurant. Due to its verdant foliage, Muthyalamaduvu is popular among urbanites as a weekend retreat. Muthyalamaduvu is an hour drive from Bangalore. It is approximately 35 km on the periphery of Bannerghatta National Park. To reach the place, head out on Bannerghatta Road, continue beyond Bannerghatta National Park and reach Anekal.
- Bheemeshwari is a small town that lies between the Shivanasamudra falls and Mekedatu falls, on the Cauvery River in Mandya district of Karnataka. It is a great spot for eco-tourism and is a natural habitat for the Mahseer fish found in the waters of the Cavery. Mahseer is considered as one of the finest game fish in the world. The surrounding lush forest cover is home to many animas like elephants, wild boars, monkeys, jackals, crocodiles, otters and leopards; as well as a variety of water birds like herons, ibis, cormorants and kingfisher. The river Cauvery has made Bheemeshwari a major fishing hub. Hoards of enthusiastic anglers throng here every year to try their luck at fishing. A number of fishing camps have sprouted here for catching the Mahseer - the finest game fish in India. These camps provide comfortable tents equipped with all basic facilities like cots, mosquito nets, shower and toilet. Food is usually served in the open-air common dining room.
- Dodda Aalada Mara (The Big Banyan Tree): The Big Banyan Tree is about 30 kms from Bangalore. On the Mysore Road, turn right after the Rajarajeshwari Dental College to get to the Big Banyan Tree. It is a tree that is more than 400 years old and has its wines comfortable spread out to make a cool picnic spot underneath it. Be warned that this place is going to be more crowded that you expect it to be. You will see families, groups of friends and lovers jamming the place. And if you are planing on eating some snacks while enjoying the cool shade of the tree, think again. You may get robbed of your snacks by stray monkeys. But dont lose heart, just 14 kms from The Big Banyan Tree there is the Manchanbele Backwaters and dam that can make your day complete.
- Manchanbele is a small village about 45 kms from Bangalore. On the Mysore road, turn right after the Rajarajeshwari Dental College and cross The Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Aalad Mara) and Bayalu Halli (Bayalu Village) to get to Manchanbele. Manchanabele Dam is manmade irrigational dam on the Arkavati river in the village of Manchanbele. The dam may not be an exciting piece of architecture but what takes your breath away is the beauty of the water and the mountains around them. It is an excellent picnic spot with a million dollar view. The best time to reach there would be early evening, say 4 pm onwards as there are no trees for shelter from the sun, it can get a little unpleasant during the first half of the day.

The forest has a lot of gates through which people can enter. The second gate is the Dhangarhi gate; it is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from Ramnagar. This gate is on the south-east of the forest and serves as the entrance for a lot of forest rest houses. Khara Gate is another gate located around 20 kilometers from Ramnagar. The Vatanvasa gate and the Teria gate are two more gates from which tourists can enter this forest reserve.
Entry Details
The fee for entry to the forest is four hundred Rupees for foreigners and sixty Rupees for Indians. Vehicle entry is seven hundred and fifty Rupees for buses and two hundred Rupees for light vehicles. Still Shot Camera is free, however, five thousand rupees needs to be deposited in case you are have a video camera. The forest reserve is open from 6 am till 5:30 pm.

Jim Corbett National Park is located in the state of Uttaranchal and was established in the year 1956. It covers an area of 1318.54 sq. km is and is the perfect place in India for wildlife seekers .It includes 520 sq. km. of dense forest reserve and 800 sq. km. of buffer reserve , this forest reserve is one of the most visited tourist place in India . This reserve is named after a British conversationalist, Jim Corbett.
Time to Visit:
The best time to visit the park is in the winter that includes the months of November to April. Winters can be a little cold, so do pack in your warm clothes. The park remains closed during the months of July, August and September due to monsoons.
Location:
The Jim Corbett National Park is located in the state of Uttaranchal in India .It is at a distance of nineteen kilometers from Ramnagar , eighty eight kilometers from Nainital and two sixty three kilometers from Delhi .
Entry Gates:
The forest has a lot of gates through which people can enter. Amdanda gate, it is located around 3 kilometers from Ramnagar, This gate is preferred only for day visitors and here tourists have the option for staying at some forest reserve homes. The second gate is the Dhangarhi gate; it is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from Ramnagar. This gate is on the south-east of the forest and serves as the entrance for a lot of forest rest houses. Khara Gate is another gate located around 20 kilometers from Ramnagar. The Vatanvasa gate and the Teria gate are two more gates from which tourists can enter this forest reserve.
Entry Details
The fee for entry to the forest is four hundred Rupees for foreigners and sixty Rupees for Indians. Vehicle entry is seven hundred and fifty Rupees for buses and two hundred Rupees for light vehicles. Still Shot Camera is free, however, five thousand rupees needs to be deposited in case you are have a video camera. The forest reserve is open from 6 am till 5:30 pm.
Fauna & Flora in Corbett National Park
The Jim Corbett National Park is well renowned for its tiger habitat. Tourists can also witness Indian elephants, leopard, jungle cats and wild boars apart from the varied reptile and Avian species present in this reserve. This park has also been a center point for floral attractions. The forested area is filled with Teaks, eucalyptus, silver oak, Sal forests and Khair-Sissoo forests. Bamboos and various kinds of shrubs can also be found here.
Attractions in Jim Corbett
There are two kinds of safaris which is the main activity in this park - Elephant Safari and the Horse safari. Besides the safari, there are other adventure sports and activities that tourists can enjoy in the forest reserve. Fishing can also be enjoyed while in the Jim Corbett National park. Though one is advised to carry their own equipments, rods can be hired at five hundred Rupees per day. Trekking can also be enjoyed. Trekking is prohibited inside the core forest, but tourists can enjoy trekking in the areas around the forest.
